Section 3

Verify these details independently

Do not take our word for any of this. Each registration can be checked directly with the authority that issued it:

Section 4

What these registrations mean — and what they do not

Registration is not endorsement. Registration with FinCEN as a money services business is a mandatory filing obligation, not an approval or a seal of quality. FinCEN does not recommend, approve, endorse or vouch for any registered business. Likewise, holding a state money transmitter license does not mean the State of Washington or the Department of Financial Institutions endorses DireBit, guarantees our services, or has approved any digital asset.

What our status does mean: we are subject to the Bank Secrecy Act and its implementing regulations; we must maintain a written anti-money-laundering program and a designated compliance officer; we must identify and verify our customers; we must monitor transactions and file Suspicious Activity Reports and Currency Transaction Reports; we must screen against OFAC sanctions lists; we must keep records for the periods the law prescribes; and we are subject to examination by our regulators.

What it does not mean: it does not make your holdings insured or guaranteed; it does not make any digital asset safe, suitable or approved; it does not protect you from market losses; and it does not make DireBit a bank, an investment adviser or a broker-dealer.

Section 5

Customer asset protections

  • Customer assets are recorded as belonging to the customer and are held separately from the corporate assets of DIRE MONEY TRANSMITTER LLC.
  • We do not lend, pledge, rehypothecate or trade customer assets for our own account.
  • As a Washington-licensed money transmitter we are required to maintain permissible investments in an amount not less than our outstanding transmission obligations, in accordance with the Washington Uniform Money Services Act (RCW 19.230), and to meet the surety bond and net worth requirements that apply to our license.
  • We are subject to reporting and examination by the Washington State Department of Financial Institutions.

These protections are meaningful but limited. They are not deposit insurance. Please read the Risk Disclosure, in particular the section on custody and insolvency risk.

Section 6

Where we operate

DireBit operates exclusively in the United States and offers its services only to United States residents. We do not solicit or serve customers outside the United States.

Within the United States, services are available only in those states and territories where DIRE MONEY TRANSMITTER LLC holds the required money transmitter license or is otherwise permitted to operate. Our current license is the Washington money transmitter license listed in section 2. The states available to you are confirmed during account opening and may change as our licensing position changes.

We do not provide services to persons resident in or located in jurisdictions subject to comprehensive sanctions administered by OFAC, or to persons appearing on applicable sanctions lists. See our AML & KYC Policy.
